MyCiTi Info Session: City Bowl

Information sessions on MyCiTi’s plans for Vredehoek, CBD and Atlantic Seaboard

The MyCiTi system is expanding across the peninsula, bringing reliable and effective public transport to all parts of Cape Town. The City of Cape Town will host a series of MyCiTi information sessions to inform the public about construction plans for the Vredehoek, the CBD and Atlantic Seaboard areas.

One of the next phases of the system’s development involves the smaller 9m buses that will operate in and around residential areas. Bus stops are planned that will allow level boarding into these smaller vehicles, on routes that will travel through residential areas.

At the information sessions, engineers will be present to explain the precise nature of the plans for the specific neighbourhoods. The public is encouraged to attend these sessions, and to ask any questions they may want to ask.

LONG, KLOOF AND RHEEDE STREETS AND SURROUNDS

Wednesday 25 July 2012 from 15:30 to 19:30, at the Cape Town Baptist Church Hall, 23 Kloof Street.

The introduction of MyCiTi services in the Gardens area, specifically along Kloof Street, provides the opportunity to create general traffic improvements in the area, while facilitating bus flow and creating a better, safer streetscape for people and vehicles alike. In order to achieve this, the following interventions are proposed:

a) Banning the right turn movement from Kloof Street onto Orange Street

b) Removal of on-street parking on Kloof Street between Orange Street and Wilkinson Street, and along Rheede Street.

The City of Cape Town hopes members of the public affected by these planned roadworks and construction projects will make use of the opportunity to be briefed on these plans.
