This week sees a host of famed urbanists and urban specialists descend on London for the 11th Urban Age Conference. The theme for this year’s conference is the Electric City which draws focus to the combined effects of technological innovation and the global environmental crisis on the world’s cities.

The conference will run over two days and will explore a number of issues related to the overarching theme, from macro-issues of urbanising technology, the green economy, innovative urban futures and urban leadership, to applications in intelligent dwelling, shared electric vehicles, smart e-bikes and mobile phone leapfrogging.

The objective of Urban Age Electric City conference – and the research leading up to it – is to provide a fresh perspective on how to accelerate the current sociotechnical transition of cities in order to more effectively respond to the urgent environmental and economic challenges.

The invited speakers range from mayors to architects, from urban sociologists to MPs. Ricky Burdett, Ed GlaeserSaskia Sassen, Richard Sennett, Bjarke Ingels, Richard Rogers, Anthony Giddens, Andy Altman, Kent Larson and Edgar Pieterse all appear on the bill.
