New R400 million Biogas Plant opened in Cape Town

New Plant, Athlone

A new R400 million biogas plant opened in Athlone, Cape Town on 25 of January, 2017. This new plant converts organic household, municipal and industrial waste into bio-methane, a clean, renewable energy source, which can thereafter be used in a range of other industrial and agricultural products.

The plant is owned by New Horizons Energy, a subsidiary of Clean Energy Africa. The biogas plant will aim to reduce the country’s environmental footprint by converting solid municipal waste into energy and will provide 80 full-time and more than 100 indirect jobs in the city.
