Healthy, Happy & care-full Cities with Young and I Healthy, Happy & care-full Cities with Young and Intuitive City planners of the society: Did you know that your children can play a key role in shaping future cities?

The ‘everyday freedoms’ of time spent playing outdoors, children’s ability to get around independently, and their level of contact with nature are strong indicators of how a city is performing, not just for children but for all generations of city dwellers. In a child-friendly city, children of all ages and abilities are treated with dignity. They are healthy, active, engaged citizens who enjoy freedom to play, explore and socialise in their neighbourhoods. Streets and public spaces are welcoming for people of all backgrounds and ages to share and connect through a range of activities and functions. In this vision, the fabric of the city works with the smaller scale and unhurried pace of children

London is planning to transform the disused Camden London is planning to transform the disused Camden railway into a lush tree-lined 'garden walkway'. The route is 1.2km long, around 8 metres above ground and will bring new local green space to 20,000 people.

As part of London’s post-pandemic green initiatives, the project is expected to connect neighbourhoods, increase local access to green space, and boost tourism.

The project is currently waiting for planning permission and seeking funding.

On our radar this week is Elizabeth Diller’s @te On our radar this week is Elizabeth Diller’s @ted Talk - “A stealthy reimagining of public space”.

As our cities are becoming increasingly privatised, carving out space that exists purely for the public is turning into a necessary cause that needs to be actively fought for 🌳. Designers, architects and urban planners must defend public space, advocate for more of it and reclaim space that has been lost due to neglect and a lack of vision 🕳

However, an important point to consider in the creation of more public space is the gentrification that often follows - how do we avoid this? 🏙 Are there any spaces near you that you feel could better serve the public and/or environment? 🌍

SelgasCano's Louisiana Hamlet Pavilion to House a SelgasCano's Louisiana Hamlet Pavilion to House a School in Nairobi's Kibera Slum

The Hamlet Pavilion is a great example of architecture that explores non-traditional ways of making architecture. The pavilion makes use of light materials that are adaptable and further explores other ways of making architecture by shipping, what was initially designed as a public space for congregation, to Nairobi where it will be used as a school facility. The Kenyan students currently occupying a decrepit facility will now make use of this pavilion expanding the vision of how low-cost architecture can be effectively realized.
