This October a number of changes will take place with Cape Town’s MyCiTi BRT system. The Adderley Street station will be opening and will connect the new BRT system with the very important suburban rail network at Cape Town Station. A number of other changes to routes will also be made. Here we recap 5 changes coming from October 2014.
Cape Town is aiming to launch the N2 Express service to Mitchell’s Plain on 5 July 2014. A new colour-coded wayfinding signage system was also launched to help commuters.
The introduction of several new MyCiTi routes since November 2013 has seen an impressive 89% growth in passenger numbers, highlighting the demand for quality public transport in Cape Town.
The timetables for the new MyCiTi routes being launched on 2 Nov and 30 Nov 2013 have been announced ranging from a frequent every 10mins to a very slow every 40 mins.
South Africa got its first public transport service on Google Transit which integrates the routes and timetables into Google Maps. If you’ve been lucky to travel overseas, you will know how vital it is to have such information in Google Maps.
Construction on a new MyCiTi station at the V&A Waterfront is underway this month.
The relocation of the Cenotaph on Adderley street has been given the green light and will now allow the City of Cape Town to commence construction of the enclosed MyCiTi feeder bus station for rail commuters.
