Opportunity: Support Officer Internship

Position: Support Officer and Co-ordinator within Future Cape Town (FCT)

  • Term: 6 months (minimum)
  • Type: unpaid
  • Hours: 10-20 a week

Future Cape Town is a non-profit think tank, passionate about the future of cities. It delivers on its mission through engagement, research and collaboration, creating a space for awareness, debate and action, in the area of urbanism in Cape Town and in cities around the world. We conduct research and develop programmes in various arenas, through an experiential approach, across a vast range of urban and public issues e.g. public space, models of engagement, new media, urban regeneration, economic development and so forth.

Future Cape Town is in search of a quick-thinking, organized, and passionate intern to contribute to the development, growth and sustainability of Future Cape Town programmes, research, and engagement.

You will be a central team member in an exciting and diverse organization, with the opportunity to gain experience in social media, research, operations and management.

Your role as Support Officer and Co-ordinator would be to support Future Cape Town through:

  • To continue in the development a programmatic framework for Future Cape Town, including all current and future projects.
  • To develop and maintain the FCT approach to Stakeholder Engagement
  • To research, coordinate and assist in the implementation of the Future Cape Town funding plan and related grant/funding applications
  • To coordinate across all spheres of Future Cape Town namely; engagement, research and projects
  • To offer organisational support to the Managing Director, Assistant Director, and Urban Intelligence Unit research team members, including scheduling and communications.
  • Occasional writing, editing, and publishing of FCT position statements, media releases, event proceedings, and  articles
  • Research and writing on urban, spatial and economic issues as needed

Requirements:

  • Based in Cape Town
  • A passion for urbanism, in one or several areas is essential, but a related degree is not.
  • Solid research skills, an organised working style, creative and proactive attitude
  • Good oral communication, writing and visual presentation skills
  • An interest in our projects and research — the internship is unpaid at present, so we are looking for people eager to learn in order to further their careers in research and/or any of the topics they will be investigating.   • Speaking a second language in addition to English, e.g. Afrikaans, Xhosa, would be advantageous but is not necessary.
Please note: Interns are required to be based in Cape Town.
